Ordering a drink at a Korean café kiosk

Before paying, check five details: drink, hot or iced, size, quantity, and whether you are staying or taking it away. Use the actual screen as your reference; button positions and available choices vary.

Prepare one order

Decide on a drink and a backup before approaching the screen. If you are ordering for several people, write a short list so that you can check the quantities together. This is our suggested preparation routine, not an instruction from a particular café chain.

Work through the screen

Look for a language selector if one is offered. Choose the drink, then read each option rather than repeatedly pressing the brightest button. Dine-in or takeaway may appear before or after the menu. If the basket contains a duplicate drink, remove it before continuing.

Use a final pause at the total: are the drinks and quantities correct, and did you accidentally add a paid extra? For a choice you cannot interpret, ask a staff member to look at that screen with you. A payment terminal is not the right place to test guesses about an ingredient you need to avoid.

Keep payment and collection separate

Follow the reader's instructions and wait for a clear order confirmation. Keep the receipt or order number. If payment appears to have succeeded but no number is shown, ask staff to check before starting another order.

Find out how this café signals collection: it may use a number, a display or a pager. Once your order is ready, check it against your receipt. Ask where to return a reusable cup or tray when you finish.
